Trevor Schonewille - Founder
The idea of Monkiri came during my internship in Cambodia with BlueOrchard. One of my key tasks was to collect updates from the microfinance banks (MFIs) that BlueOrchard invested in. I learned about what was happening with these MFIs, the reasons for delays in reporting and the pain points that they were experiencing.
Now being young and naïve, this triggered the lightbulb in my head and gave me an idea to run with. How can I make learning about finance easy, fun, accessible and practical? After some long nights and weekends, interviews, pitches and a motorcycle trip through Northern Cambodia I finally had an idea: Monkiri.
Angele Scott - Co-Founder + CTO
Angele is our numbers person. She works on the backend of the LMS and app to make sure we are running as smoothly as possible.
Angele came to Monkiri because she believes in a world where everyone can make financial decisions in their best interest.
Thein - Business Development (South East Asia)
Thein was on the ground-floor with Trevor when Monkiri was just a thought in a crazy (and most likely broke) backpackers head.
Thein wears many hats, when he isn’t building lessons, he works at growing Monkiri in South East Asia. He works with Trevor on scaling projects, building partnerships, and ensuring our lessons have an impact in his community.
Oliver Flint - Marketing

Despite being a writer by education, my interest is based in digital storytelling. I have been lucky enough to work and travel all over the world in places like India, Tanzania, Nepal and even South Korea! My experiences abroad made me realize two things: 1. financial education is crazy boring and i’d rather be doing anything else, and, 2. most people feel the same way. That is what got me into Monkiri in the first place.
We are completely changing the landscape, and I am so excited to be a part of it!
Prakash Koirala - Lesson Builder
Prakash is an award-winning financial inclusion champion and policymaker. He believes in making a real difference in people's financial lives! With a core education in financial accessibility from Harvard University, Prakash brings years of experience alongside his technical skills to help Monkiri clients make the largest impact possible.
Christy Liu - UX Designer
Christy is passionate about crafting intuitive and delightful learning experiences, as well as increasing accessibility to financial education.
She was involved in the earlier stages of Monkiri and have been helping re-design the mobile app and learning management system. Throughout the design process, she combines the ideas from the team and insights from Monkiri learners.
Christy is also fascinated by art and illustration, and has created a lot of the visuals on the app!
